The Building Safety Fund is now open for new applications as of the 28th of July!
The Building Safety Fund is an important provision for building owners or developers who cannot afford the costs of tackling fire safety concerns associated with cladding. It’s a fantastic opportunity for some help funding remediation.
The government introduced the Fund in March 2020 to fund cladding remediation on high-rise residential buildings over 18 metres. The applications for this fund have reopened but are subject to stricter requirements.
One of these requirements is that the building must “have a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Wall construction (FRAEW) following the PAS 9980:2022 methodology which recommends actions to address fire risks to life safety presented by the external wall system”.
The government have also announced that there will be a separate Fund “to mitigate against life safety fire risks associated with cladding on mid-rise residential buildings that are 11-18m in height where a Responsible Entity can demonstrate that other options to cover costs are unavailable”. This Fund is not open yet – more information will be available in the future.
At BEFS our FRAEWs are all in line with the BSI guidance for PAS 9980. Please get in touch if you think we might be able to help!
